Creating a Positive Mindset For Challenging Times

Creating a Positive Mindset For Challenging Times

The last several months have put pressures and restrictions on us that make it easy to want to fall into a negative spiral. Now, more than ever, practicing positivity is essential for your mental well-being and maintaining a strong immune system. It’s so easy to pick ourselves up and brush off a tough day, right? WRONG. If we are sure of anything at this moment, it’s that it is okay not to be okay.

We are experiencing something that most people won’t see in their lifetime, and it is okay to feel unsure. But we can certainly take steps into making each day a little easier, even if for a moment. Let’s talk about a few things you can start to implement into your daily life to work towards a healthy, positive mindset during challenging times.

Create a Positive Morning Routine

What you think and do when you wake up can impact the entire day. Develop a morning routine that helps you feel happy, productive, and fulfilled. Here are some ideas for getting a positive kickstart to your day.

  • Get an early start to the day
  • Meditate
  • Journal
  • Stay in stillness and just breathe
  • Read something that inspires you or makes you smile
  • Set goals for the day
  • Take a walk
  • Drink water and hydrate
  • Listen to music that energizes you
  • Connect with people you love

Eat & Move

It’s easy to sit in our sweatpants all day in dangerous proximity to the fridge, especially right now. Did you know what we eat has a direct effect on the function and structure of our brains? Eating a well-balanced, healthy diet may boost your mood and may also have positive impacts on anxiety and depression.

Have a routine. Even if you have nowhere to be, try getting in the habit of setting your alarm and establish a morning plan. Moving your body promotes chemicals in your brain to improve your mood. Self-care is the best care!

Disconnect

Yes, we said it. No Instagram, no emails, no phone. Try disconnecting from electronics and social media, even if it’s just a few hours per day. People handle things in all sorts of ways, and sometimes seeing people “living their best life” makes you question yours. Watch a movie, read a book, bake a cake, do a facemask!

Activities

Engage in activities that provide MEANING! Start a book club, do a puzzle, paint or shamelessly buy that adult coloring book sitting in your Amazon cart. These things take your mind off of life and stimulate our brains to think on a deeper level.

Meditation

Our minds are one of our most powerful tools as they control many of our natural healing capabilities. We know meditation can be a scary word, so we are going to break it down with the help of Meditation Farm’s ten golden rules.

  • Find a good meditation guide and/or teacher
  • Find one dedicated place for your daily meditation practice
  • Pick a comfortable meditation posture
  • Pick an easy-to-practice meditation technique
  • The ideal meditation is between 30 to 60 minutes in one sitting
  • Make meditation an absolute priority
  • Have fun
  • Meditation is a battle against your mind
  • You have to be a little selfish to succeed in meditation
  • Aim for the highest goal in meditation

The hardest part is getting started. The rest is up to you. Enjoy the daily journey!
